A letter to the wild unknown
This has been a quiet space lately on my blog. I’ve been too much on the edge of my seat, watching the world shift right before my eyes. Losses and griefs assaulting me too quickly to even react. Packing hurriedly to move continents, to move houses, to move within a whole new world. From Malawi back to Canada within a week. I am taking some time now, amidst the chaos to sit still and hopefully encourage myself and whoever needs it, amidst the transitional spaces we are all continually moving in. May you be blessed.
Dear unknown,
We’ve met before
I’ve sat outside your gate before
I’ve fretted entering into the chaos of your wildness
I’ve been lost in the discomfort of your darkness
I’ve been swallowed up in the panic of your mystery
Paralyzed by fear of what lies within you
But
He was my way maker amidst your pathless wild before
He was my light giver on your dark paths
He was my foot steadier on your shaky grounds
He knew your heights and depths
He met me and will meet me again within your wilderness
Unknown, you will not define my posture
Unknown, you will not decide my fate
Unknown, you will not produce fear in me
Unknown, you will not destroy my joy
Unknown, you will not define my worth
I will walk boldly forward one step at a time
Knowing
My knowable God knows your ways and governs your boundaries
My knowable God holds my hand in His and will guide me through your chaos
I can choose to put my hand in His and trust, yet again, He will see me through to your other side
In a short week where everything has changed, nothing has changed except I have tasted and seen God’s goodness to us in a new way. I have been suspended in awe and gratitude again and again as God has gone ahead of us already. Where there has been anxiety and fear, God has met us. Where there has been grief and disappointment, He has comforted. Where there has been uncertainty, He has brought peace. Let us move into the dark mystery of the unknown as people of faith in the love of our Father who will not let us wander into the mysterious world ahead without His presence.
